Behind the scenes of my TIME mag story!
A PR pitch directly inspired my piece in TIME's World's Greatest Places. From pitch to publishing, here's how it all went down.
Hi friends!
I'm excited to share that I've once again had the incredible honor of contributing to TIME's prestigious list of the World's Greatest Places! This year, I covered Kansas City's game-changing CPKC Stadium—the very first stadium purpose-built for women's professional sports!
But here’s a secret: I haven’t visited the CPKC Stadium (yet!). I haven’t even been to Kansas City! So how was I able to land a commission on the stadium in such a highly competitive feature?
It all started with a compelling pitch from a PR person who then partnered with me throughout the process of telling the story of this phenomenal stadium. Her pitch stood out from the more than 150+ I received from PR people who responded to my Substack announcing I was open to pitches for TIME.
Here’s a behind the scenes look at how this worked, from pitch to publishing, along with tips for crafting destination pitches that not only catch a journalist's eye but also turn into compelling stories.
